MEET OUR 2023 AMBASSADORS

Our Ambassadors are our frontline in the gym. They act as a buffer for new athletes who have either graduated our On-Ramp program, or who are just beginning their fitness journey with 3-46 GRIT. Take some time to learn just a bit more about each one of our amazing ambassadors!

ANITA SHOEMAN

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

Take grandkids to local parks.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

Hmm where do I begin, the coaches, the members, the atmosphere is positive, everyone is encouraging and helpful. The feeling of a true community, I love all the activities and monthly challenges, the support for all the members, Andrus babies, meal trains for folks when they need it, etc….

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

Pull ups and hand stand push ups.

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

Hmmm probably running or a lot of cardio. Even though I don’t love to run it seems I’m good at it and my cardio is better than my strength.

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

Rope climb was something I’d never done before so that was a huge accomplishment.

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

Going to GRIT and visiting downtown for burritos at Gresham Burrito shop.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

The community and the coaches, having people push you to come into the gym and encourage you during the workouts makes a difference.

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

To learn to do butterfly pullups and I would love to be able to do a muscle up in the coming year.

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

Snatches. They are fun. I am not great at them and want to improve.

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

I have always had mobility issues with OHS and since coming to GRIT I’ve actually been able to do them regularly. The coaches have helped me with my warm up routine, and that has made a huge difference in my mobility.

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

I don’t live in Gresham but one thing I love to do there (other than working out at GRIT) is visit the food cart village!

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

My favorite thing about GRIT is the community. I don’t attend the same class all the time so I get to work out with a bunch of different people. There is always the same feeling of belonging. I also like giving high 5’s or fist bumps at the end of the work out.

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

My fitness goal is always the same. Be a little better than I was yesterday. Whether that is nailing the dip drive on a push jerk or pushing through a workout when I am not feeling it. I just want to be better than yesterday.

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

I think most people would agree if a workout was named for me it would definitely involve biking!  I like the bike, my long legs give me an advantage!

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

Since being at GRIT I have gotten the worlds sloppiest toes to bar!  So I am working on the movement to make it better!

JORDAN KENNY

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

Does Fairview count? If so, going to Stomping Grounds for coffee or lunch. I also love going down to the Gresham farmers market when it is open. They have the best locally sourced honey around! Usually exploring the eclectic food trucks, coffee stops, and plant shops in downtown Gresham is my go to.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

The community. I have been a part of many gyms, including other CrossFits, and none have given me the support, coaching, and family Grit has. Not only has Grit accepted me, they embraced exactly who I am and made me feel like a valued member of the team. Because of that, I found the gym to be my happy place, and look forward to seeing my 5:30am crew every day!

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

In the next year, I really want to improve my understanding of nutrition and how it affects my body and fitness journey. I want to learn how to eat for fuel and possibly help others with their nutrition goals down the road.

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

Box jump overs. I just love ‘em, and I’m pretty fast at them if I do say so myself! The workout would also have some cals on the bike or rower because that is my jam!

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

I found confidence in my abilities. The culture that is cultivated at GRIT allows me to fail, learn, and grow without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. The energy at GRIT is contagious and it makes me want to try harder to push myself every day. I mean, don’t get me wrong, going from no kipping pull ups to strings of 10-15 in less than 8 months is pretty sweet too…

TOMMY SCHULTZ

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

Seems like this semi small community that feels kinda tight knit next to this big city.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

For the bad wrap CrossFit get, Chels and I felt so extremely welcomed and not judged for our lack of CrossFit experience.

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

I’m hoping to be able to do a a strict pull up at some point and get a little more mobile in general.

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

The reverse curl clean. Who needs form when you can just get strong and curl everything.

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

Starting to just feel healthy again, my heart rate not going up a lot just walking up a hill, clothes fitting better. Feeling like we have made real friends for the first time in 2 years since we started traveling.

ASHLEY CROGHAN

QUICK FIRE Q&A

1. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN GRESHAM?

Walk my dogs around all the fun trails in my neighborhood.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT GRIT?

The people at Grit, coaches and members are genuine. People are kind, inclusive and foster an environment where anyone can be themselves.

3. WHAT IS ONE FITNESS GOAL YOU HAVE IN THE COMING YEAR?

Run Hood to Coast without dying… or crying. Walking without a limp after would be a bonus!

4. IF A WORKOUT WAS NAMED AFTER YOU, IT WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE WHAT MOVEMENT?  WHY?

Ski erg! The ski erg is the only cardio equipment I find tolerable and dare I say, enjoyable!

5. WHATS ONE THING YOU’VE ACHIEVED SINCE BECOMING A MEMBER?

It’s hard to pick just one. There’s so many things I’ve achieved but the most important is that I’ve found a community. People to suffer with daily and friendships that are authentic.
